part of a continued effort to
further consolidate its U.S.

In another move aimed at
increasing its presence in
the frozen baked foods market, Ralcorp Holdings, Inc.
said last week it has signed
a definitive agreement to
purchase Concept 2 Bakers,
a maker of frozen par-baked
artisan bread with a bakery in
suburban Minneapolis.

She was 69 years old. Their

ConAgra, Inc., Omaha, Neb.,
and Cereal Food Processors,
Inc., Mission Woods, Kas.,
announced Feb. 21 that an
agreement has been reached
between the companies of
the acquisition by Cereal
Food Processors of certain
ConAgra flour milling facilities in the western region of
the United States.

Charles W. Hunter, president
of the Hunter Milling Co.,
and son of the late George H.
Hunter, the founder of the
company, died Feb. 15 at the
Newton Memorial Hospital
at Winfield, Kas., where he
had been a patient for several
weeks.
That a loaf of bread would
advance a cent, at retail,
presumably the pound loaf,
and that a 10-lb bag of flour
would cost the housewife 7c
more at retail without subsidies, was asserted by President Roosevelt in his message
to Congress on the veto of the
Commodity Credit Corp. bill
Friday.
Fire, which was believed to
have started from spontaneous

combustion in the third floor of
the cleaning department of the
Larabee Flour Mills Co., North
Kansas City, MO. plant, set off
a dust explosion that blew out
the south end of the mill housing the cleaning department,
wrecked the elevator headhouse
and severely damaged the grain
storage tanks. The fire and explosion Feb. 18 killed four and
injured 19 employees. Almost as
quickly as the last smoldering
flames were extinguished at the
plant, telegraphic authorization for necessary priorities for
reconstruction of the plant was
given to the company by Washington officials.
With American civilians
enjoying a better diet today
than during the 1935-39
period, the so-called surplus years, and with every
one of America's 10 million
soldiers and sailors getting plenty of food in the
firth nutritive balance, the
progress that has been made
thus far with the war food
program is phenomenal, Lee
Marshall, director of the Office of Distribution in the
War Food Administration,
pointed out in Kansas City
Feb. 28.
Indications are that probably
the largest buyer of hard
winter wheat in the United
States will drop out of the
market entirely. This applied
to an alcohol distiller at Philadelphia, whose absorption
of wheat has been at the rate
of 100,000 bus per day.

shortage continues because
