Hostess Brands set to shutter
Schiller Park baking plant
SCHILLER PARK, ILL. - The facility where Twinkies were invented
in 1930 will be closed later this year
after Hostess Brands, L.L.C. announced it will shutter its Schiller
Park bakery "to enhance its production and distribution capabilities and
efficiencies."
"Hostess has brought these great
brands back to the marketplace,"
said Bill Toler, chief executive officer
of Hostess. "We have invested heavily in all facilities to improve worker
conditions and efficiencies in a very
highly competitive environment and
marketplace. While the old Hostess
company was in bankruptcy, many

competitors took over the shelves

Star of the West building soft
wheat flour mill in Ohio
FRANKENMUTH, MICH. - The
board of directors of Star of the West
Milling Co. has approved a "greenfield" flour mill project in Willard, in
north central Ohio. Construction on
the mill is expected to begin this fall
with completion targeted for the fall
of 2016. The facility is expected to produce 10,000 cwts of flour per day, with
all of the milling capacity dedicated to
milling soft red winter wheat.
The mill will have direct access to
the CSX railroad to allow inbound
wheat shipments and outbound shipments of flour, Star of the West said.
"The site location was chosen to
optimize availability of Ohio grown
soft red wheat and also to position

the facility strategically with our
existing customer base," Star of the
West said.
The company said it is expecting
to evaluate all of its existing production capacity and rebalance production with customer demand. The
company expects to realize a net
increase of over 6,000 cwts per day
system-wide.
BÜhler AG, Uzwil, Switzerland,
has provided engineering and product flow design and is expected to
provide equipment, electrical, and
installation at the mill. Todd & Sargent, Ames, Iowa, has been chosen as the building contractor, and

Cargill, Copersucar names global
sugar joint venture Alvean
GENEVA AND SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL
- Cargill and Copersucar on Aug. 20
announced they have completed all
required regulatory clearances to form
Alvean, a 50/50 sugar trading joint
venture that will operate as an independent entity. Alvean will begin integrating global activities to originate,
commercialize and trade raw and
white sugar.

Hostess closed all its bakeries in
November 2012, as it filed for bankruptcy, but several plants were acquired in 2013 as part of the $410
million purchase by HB Holdings
L.L.C., an affiliate of Apollo Global
Management L.L.C. and Metropoulos & Co., of most of the snack cake
assets of Hostess Brands Inc. The
company has three other baking
plants in Indianapolis; Columbus,
Ga.; and Emporia, Kas. Hostess has
made production capacity expansions at the Emporia plant since the

flour capacity of 25,500 cwts daily.

Star of the West owns and operates 12 grain elevators primarily in
Michigan with a grain storage capacity of more than 21 million bus.

edible bean processing facilities,
and three retail agricultural operations that include fertilizer, crop
protection, custom application and

Copersucar S.A. is a Brazilian sugar
and ethanol trader. Cargill, Minneapolis, provides food, agriculture, financial and industrial products and

companies first announced the sugar

also will have offices in Bangkok,
Thailand; Bilbao, Spain; Delhi, India;
Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Hong
Kong; Jakarta, Indonesia; Miami; Moscow; São Paulo; and Shanghai, China.
