Dave's Killer Bread going national
MILWAUKIE, ORE. - Dave's Killer
Bread has unveiled plans to distribute its
bread products across the United States,
up from the 25 states it currently serves.
The maker of U.S.D.A. organic and
Non-GMO Project Verified bread previously only sold its products in Western
states, but distribution will expand into
Midwest and Southeastern states by this
winter, the company said.
Dave's Killer Bread offers a line
of hand-crafted/seed-encrusted
bread containing protein, omega-3
fatty acids and fiber from seeds
and organic ingredients such
as amaranth, barley, spelt, blue
cornmeal, quinoa and pumpkin.
According to the company, an average slice has up to 5 grams of
protein, as much as an egg. Dave's
Killer Bread's Thin-Sliced varieties have the same nutrition as the
brand's regular deli slices, with as
few as 60 calories, the company

Bassetts adding artisan dinner rolls
PHILADELPHIA - Bassetts Ice Cream,
the 150-year-old Philadelphia-based ice
cream distributor, is launching a new artisan bread line in the next two to three
weeks. For the past 10 years, Bassetts
has been distributing other brands' parbaked flash-frozen bread - partiallybaked bread that is frozen and distributed to restaurants and then fully baked
at the restaurant - because many of the
company's ice cream buyers were also
artisan bread buyers.
The success Bassetts has seen
through its distribution of artisan
bread inspired the company to create
its own line.
"About two to three months ago
we decided we wanted to develop
our own line and brand of artisan
bread because our distribution of
other brands had been so successful," said Michael Strange, president

and owner of Bassetts Ice Cream.
The company is starting out with a
line of dinner rolls, as a way to "dip
our toes in the water," as Mr. Strange
put it.
The line initially will consist of a
french style dinner roll, seeded french
style dinner roll, pumpernickel onion
roll and multi-grain roll.
Mr. Strange said that if they see success in the distribution of dinner rolls,
the company could look to expand.
"Depending on how successful the
dinner roll line is, if it rolls out well
and is well-received, we will be looking at loaves and other bread products," he said.
Mr. Strange and Bassetts believe the
new product line will see success.
"Internally, we love this product
and are proud to put our brand on it,"

B.B.U. sells
former Colonial
baking plant
HORSHAM, PA. - Bimbo Bakeries
USA has sold its bakery in Nashville,
Tenn., for $9 million to an investor
group that plans to turn the site into
apartments and retail shops. B.B.U.
ceased operations at the bakery in
mid-January, part of an ongoing consolidation for the company.
The company acquired the plant
as part of its acquisition of the
North American Fresh Bakery business of Sara Lee Corp. that closed
in November 2011. The plant made
bread and buns under the Colonial,
Iron Kids and Grant's Farm brands,
according to the 2013 Directory &
Buyers Guide published by Sosland
