Campbell and Tweten to new
leadership roles at ADM
CHICAGO - Kenneth Campbell and
Manda Tweten have been elevated to
new positions at Archer Daniels Midland Co.
Mr. Campbell, who most recently
was president of ADM's Specialty Commodities business, has been named
president of Wild Flavors. He has 18
years of experience with ADM, having
previously served as ADM's vice-president, North American Oilseeds, where
he oversaw the company's softseed
commercial and processing teams. Earlier, he held various commercial leadership roles in risk management and
operations at ADM Oilseeds facilities
in Mankato, Minn., and Frankfort, Ind.
He will be based at the Wild Flavors
campus in Erlanger, Ky.

Ms. Tweten has been named president of the Specialty Commodities
business. She joined ADM with its acquisition of Wild Flavors in
2014 and was vice-president,
sales, North America, prior
to being named to her new
role. She brings more than
16 years of experience with
some of the world's leading
food, flavor and agribusiness
companies to the position.
ADM's Specialty Commodities business is based in Fargo, N.D.

Sam Rice, grain executive dubbed
'the oat king,' dies at age 90
MAUMEE, OHIO - Samuel L. Rice Jr.
died Aug. 23 at his home in Maumee.
The longtime grain executive was 90
years old.
Born in Metamora, Ohio, about 20
miles from both Toledo and Maumee,
Mr. Rice attended Ohio Wesleyan University, Louisiana Poly Tech and Duke
University. He served in the Navy in
World War II. Afterward, he returned
to Duke, graduating with a degree in
economics.
In 1946 he joined his father in the
grain business - The Rice Grain Co.,
based in Toledo. He was promoted to
president in 1958. Mr. Rice specialized
in oats, developing the "Turf Club Race
Horse Oat" brand, which was a leading feed for thoroughbred horses in the
United States and South America. At an

industry meeting in 1959 he was introduced by a Quaker Oats Co. executive
as the "oat king," an unofficial title he
retained throughout his life.
At the time of his death, he was president of Rice Investment Co., a business
he established in 1979, specializing in
commodity futures and serving customers in the United States and Finland.
Active in industry affairs, Mr. Rice
served on the Advisory Board for the
Office of Price Stability during the
Korean War; he was chairman of The
Grain Advisory Board to Lucas County
Port Authority at the opening of the St.
Lawrence Seaway; he was president of
The Toledo Board of Trade and of the
National Grain and Feed Dealers Association. He was on the N.G.F.A. board
for many years, heading numerous

Bill Farnen, longtime Kansas City
grain trader, dies at age 91
KANSAS CITY - William W. Farnen,
who spent his career as a grain trader
with Frank J. Farnen & Co., died Aug. 1
at the age of 91.
A native of Montgomery City, Mo.,
Mr. Farnen was a graduate of Southwest High School in Kansas City and
the University of Illinois. He served in
the Navy in World War II and attained
the rank of lieutenant. Both Mr. Farnen
and his brother James F. Farnen joined

the grain commission business that had
been established by their father in 1943.
Frank J. Farnen retired from the company in 1957, and the Farnen brothers ran
the business at the Kansas City Board of
Trade until the 1990s. After Bill Farnen
retired in 1992, he was recruited by the
president of General Mills, Inc. to travel
to Poland and help start a grain trading
exchange there.
Survivors include his wife of 62

and Specialty Ingredients business

edible beans and related ingredients,
hydrocolloids, polyols, soluble fiber

the National Grain Trade Council Terminal Elevator Grain Association. He
was a member of the Chicago Board
of Trade and a director of The Mennel
Milling Co.
Mr. Rice was preceded in death by
his parents, Laura and Samuel Rice, his
first wife Joyce DeVerna Rice, brothers
George and John Rice, and sister Virgiwin Rice Duncan. He is survived by
his wife, Virginia; children Samuel L.
Rice III, James D. Rice (Laura), Amanda Day (Willis); grandchildren Samantha and Natalie Day, James and Robert
Rice; step-children, Bart Nollenberger
(Mary), Bruce Nollenberger (DeeDee);
and step-grand children Tiffany and
son Niko, Tyler, Dax and Nick Nollenberger, Danielle, Blake, Jennifer and Rachel Nollenberger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be sent to First Presbyterian Church of
Maumee. MBN

Stephen and Roger, and their wives
Kristin and Helene; two daughters,
Caroline (Ward) Evers and Linda
Stryker and their husbands, Duane and

was preceded in death by his parents
and his sister, Lucy Wade.
Services were held Aug. 6, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, in Kansas City.
