baked' lawsuit

indications of how much
soft red winter wheat will
be planted by producers
this fall.

CAMDEN, N.J. - U.S. District
Judge Joseph Irenas in the U.S.
District Court for the District of
New Jersey has dismissed lawsuits filed by several consumers
claiming supermarkets misled
them with deceptive claims.
Wegmans Food Markets, Inc.,
Whole Foods, Inc. and Acme
Markets, Inc. were hit with the
false advertising class action
lawsuits in December 2014 after
a group of individuals called into
the question the grocers' use of
the terms "store baked," "baked
in store" and "made in house."
But in an Aug. 26 ruling, Judge
Irenas found in favor of the supermarkets, saying the consumers' lawsuits lacked specifics.
"We do not know which specific
products plaintiffs purchased,
whether those specific products
were linked to specific signs or
advertisements, and what those
signs or advertisements stated,"
he wrote. "We have only general
allegations about the kinds of
signs and advertisements defendants posted, and that, at least
in the case of Whole Foods and
Wegmans, plaintiffs purchased
bread and bakery products from
defendants' stores on a regular
basis over the last six years."

LONDON - World wheat ending stocks in 2016 were projected at 206 million tonnes in
data issued Aug. 27 by the International Grains Council. The
forecast was up 5 million tonnes
from the council's July 30 projection, would be 2% larger than
2002 million tonnes in 2015 and
would be up 10% from 2014. At
206 million tonnes, 2016 wheat
stocks would be only slightly
smaller than the all-time record
of 207 million tonnes at the end

of the 1999-2000 crop year. Most
of the revision from last month
was accounted for by major exporters, up by 3.4 million tonnes
to an ending stocks forecast of
68.1 million tonnes. Production
of wheat in 2015-16 was estimated at 720 million bus, up 10
million from the July forecast
and unchanged from the 201415 global wheat crop.

Bunge to buy Brazilian
wheat processor
SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL - Bunge
Brasil, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bunge Ltd., said it has
agreed to acquire Brazilian wheat
processor Moinho Pacifico. Financial terms of the transaction
were not disclosed. Located in
Santos, Brazil, Moinho Pacifico is
one of the largest wheat processors in the country. Bunge said
the acquisition will allow it to increase its market share for wheat
flour and some prepared mixes
for the bread-making industry.
"The Brazilian wheat processing market is highly competitive, and, with this acquisition,
we reinforce our position in São
Paulo," said Filipe Affonso Ferreira, vice-president of Food &
Ingredients Bunge Brazil.
