Aunt Millie's launches Breadsense,
consumer-targeted media campaign
FORT WAYNE, IND. - Aunt Millie's
Bakeries has launched Breadsense, a
new industry-focused digital media
campaign. Through a campaign web
site at www.breadsense.com and social media channels, Breadsense will provide consumers with research-based
information about the nutritional benefits of consuming
bread and whole grains, according to Aunt Millie's.
"There is a lot of misinformation out there," said J.
Bohn Popp, vice-president of
marketing for Aunt Millie's.
"Breadsense is a place for
consumers, nutritionists and
other bread brands to find
research-based resources and
sensible information about bread."
Aunt Millie's developed Breadsense
as a blog in 2015 in collaboration with
Common People United of Fort Wayne.
The blog's positive reception led Aunt

Millie's to expand the campaign with
the hope that consumers, and possibly even other brands, will join in the
mission to spread awareness about the
importance of eating grains. Through

partnerships with nutritionists such as
Lela Iliopoulos, M.S., R.D.N., of Chicago, Breadsense offers real-world applications of scientific research.

Boston-area bakery chain
ST. LOUIS - Panera Bread Co. has acquired a 50.01% stake in Tatte Bakery &
Café, said Mike Bufano, Panera's chief
financial officer, in a Feb. 10 earnings
call. Tatte, a five-store urban craft bakery
in the Boston area, offers breakfast and
lunch, he said.
"The concept appeals to high-end customers," Mr. Bufano said. "In fact, their

pastries and other confections were featured on Oprah's 'favorite things' list.
We view Tatte as a wonderful brand with
significant growth potential in residential
urban and upscale suburban markets."
St. Louis-based Panera Bread Co. made
the transaction in the fourth quarter of
2015 and has options to acquire a greater

Cascade Milling to double acreage
devoted to organic wheat
ROYAL CITY, WASH. - Cascade Milling, a division of Cascade Organic Flour,
L.L.C., said it plans to double organic
wheat acreage to 5,000 irrigated acres in
the Columbia Basin of central Washington by 2018. The increase in acreage will
allow Cascade Organic Flour to produce
30 million lbs of whole wheat organic

flour from its own organic wheat production in less than two years, according to
the company.
Founded in February 2015, Cascade
Organic Flour is a family-owned, vertically integrated operation that grows several thousand acres of organic wheat and
other crops near the Columbia river in

ADM to acquire Tate & Lyle corn wet mill
CHICAGO - Archer Daniels Midland Co.
has reached agreement with Tate & Lyle
P.L.C. to acquire the latter's Casablanca,
Morocco-based corn wet mill that produces
glucose and native starch. Financial terms
of the transaction were not disclosed.
