Cosi loss tops $15.6
million in fiscal year
BOSTON - Cosi, Inc. sustained a loss of $15,655,000 in
the year ended Dec. 28, 2015,
which compared with a loss
of $16,625,000 in fiscal 2014.
Total revenues, though, increased 16% to $89,890,000 from
$77,758,000. In the fourth quarter ended Dec. 28, the company
recorded a loss of $3,558,000,
which compared with a loss
of $4,537,000 a year ago, while
sales increased to $24,016,000,
up from $19,504,000. "We set out
to reduce cash burn in the fourth
quarter and not only were we
able to accomplish that, but we
also continue to see further reductions in 2016," said Robert
J. Dourney, president and chief
executive officer. "We stabilized
sales in the fourth quarter and
expect to meet our conservative
sales estimates for 2016."

SNAP participation
edges downward
WASHINGTON - Participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program of the
U.S. Department of Agriculture averaged 45.8 million per
month in the fiscal year ended
Sept. 30, 2015, equating to about
14% of the U.S. population. Participation was down 2% from
fiscal 2014 and 4% from the alltime high of 47.5 million in fiscal 2013. SNAP participants in
fiscal 2015 received an average
of $126.83 per month in benefits
to purchase food at authorized
food stores. The U.S.D.A. attributed SNAP declines in fiscal 2014 and 2015 in part to
the recovery from the 2007-09

recession reaching lower educated, lower wage workers.

cookie-themed donuts

icing. The new Oreo Chiller is

a chocolate drizzle.

Pre-soaked grains now
preservative-free
LENEXA, KAS. - Corbion
Caravan recently launched a
program to remove the preservative spray commonly used
in pre-soak ancient grains and
other whole grains while maintaining quality, taste and shelf
life standards. The research
and development effort led to
the reformulation of five super soaked grain products that
carry the "no preservatives" label. "The preservative-free versions of our pre-soaked grains
allow our customers to incorporate the ingredients consumers crave while also delivering
on the expectations of a cleaner
label," said Ricardo Moreira,
product portfolio manager.
"With these new products,
Corbion customers can add
ancient and whole grains into
