Prices of wheat futures in
Kansas City in May surged
above $5 a bu for the first
time since 1997.
Scott Livengood, who retired
in January 2005 as chairman
of the board and chief executive officer of Krispy Kreme
Doughnuts, Inc., has reentered the baking industry.
Mr. Livengood has acquired a
50% stake in Dewey's Bakery,
which has three retail locations in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Hodgson Mill, Inc., Effingham, Ill., has been acquired
from Siemer Milling Co. by
Robert Goldstein and Cathy
Siemer Goldstein of Teutopolis, Ill. Mr. Goldstein was
vice-president of production
for Hodgson Mill for the last
15 years and has assumed the
position of president.
Tate & Lyle P.L.C. has announced plans to build the
first phase of a corn wet
milling plant in Fort Dodge,
Iowa. The $260 million investment will build a facility with the capacity to mill
150,000 bus of corn per day.

Pepperidge Farm Inc. has introduced new 100% whole wheat
soft hamburger buns and hot
dog buns.
"Enthusiastic customer
reaction" has greeted the
introduction of Frescata deli
sandwiches, helping generate
the first monthly sales gain in
14 months at Wendy's International Inc.
David Leavitt has been named

Antonio Onofrio, one of the

City. He was 78 years of age.
Apparently influenced by a
nationwide uproar over an
alarming shortage of bread and
shutdown of all but a small
segment of the milling capacity
of the United States, Department of Agriculture announced
a plan June 3 to loan wheat to
mills in special hardship cases.
While France is maintaining
the bread ration, Austria and
Italy are facing ration cuts if
