such as E. coli tainted spinach,

has taken a toll on consumer
confidence, according to the
Food Marketing Institute's
U.S. Grocery Shopper Trends
2007, which was released at
the F.M.I. Show on May 7.

Harry S. Helm, chairman of
the board of the Russell-Miller Milling Co., Minneapolis,
died May 6 from injuries he
received in a fall from a manlift in a garage where he had

parked his car. He was 79.
Looking to the future realistically, the annual meeting of the
Millers' National Federation
in Chicago stimulated reliance
upon the promotion of domestic
consumption of flour, efforts
to retain a modest portion of
the extraordinary foreign sales
volume of recent years through
collaboration with government
export trade measures and
the furtherance of technical
education and research for the
improvement of milling production to maintain profitable conditions in the milling industry.
The Canadian Wheat Board
has ordered restrictions on the
milling of flour on domestic
human consumption, retroactive from May 1 to July 31,
1947. The order issued under
powers conferred by the Wartime Prices and Trade Board
became effective May 12. Explaining the action, officials
of the Canadian government
pointed to indications of excessive inventories of flour in the
hands of trade interests following recurring rumors of decontrol of wheat and flour prices.
