WASHINGTON - The average price
paid for white pan bread decreased
0.1c per lb in May, while the price
for whole wheat bread fell 4c per lb,
according to the latest data from the
Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S.
Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of
white pan bread was 132.7c, down
0.1c per lb from April and down 5.5c
from May 2016. On a month-to-month
basis, the average price for white pan
bread in May increased in two regions
- up 3.4c in the Midwest and up 0.5c
in the Northeast - and decreased in
two regions - down 2.7c in the South
and down 0.4c in the West.
At 197.4c per lb, the national
average price for whole wheat bread
was down 4c per lb from April but up
1.2c per lb from May 2016.
The national average price of family
flour in May was 51.7c per lb, up 0.1c
