Planting of winter wheat for
harvest in 2019 has begun
in the hard red winter wheat
states. Veteran market analysts
suggested because wheat prices
have fared comparably better
than corn and soybean prices
in the past several months,
producers will seed more winter
wheat this fall than a year ago.

Most of the increase in
winter wheat plantings
was expected in the hard
winter wheat states with
little change seen for soft
red winter wheat area.

Guidelines committee
WASHINGTON - The U.S.
Department of Agriculture, in
coordination with the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services, has issued a call for
nominations for the 2020 Dietary
Guidelines Advisory Committee (D.G.A.C.). The independent
advisory committee will review
the scientific evidence to help
inform the next edition of the
Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The deadline to submit
nominations for the Dietary
Guidelines Advisory Committee is Oct. 6. Information on how
to submit nominations, factors
the U.S.D.A. and the H.H.S.
will consider in selecting the
committee members, and the
updated topics and supporting
scientific questions are available
through DietaryGuidelines.gov.

B.B.U. relaunching
Sandwich Thins Rolls
HORSHAM, PA. - Bimbo Bakeries USA is nationally relaunching its Arnold, Brownberry and
Oroweat branded Sandwich
Thins Rolls. Originally launched
in 2008, the rolls are now made

with olive oil, sea salt and more
whole grains. "We listened to our
customers and wanted to give
them a product that wouldn't
force them to sacrifice quality and taste to meet a specific

calorie count," said Fernanda
Loya, brand manager at Arnold, Brownberry and Oroweat
Bread. Arnold, Brownberry and
Oroweat Sandwich Thins Rolls
are available in multigrain, honey wheat and 100% whole wheat
varieties. Additionally, B.B.U. is
offering a flax and fiber Sandwich Thins Rolls variety in the
Northeast region of the country.

Roquette finalizes deal
for Sethness
LA MADELEINE, FRANCE
- Ingredient manufacturer
Roquette on Sept. 6 finalized its
acquisition of Sethness, Skokie,
Ill. Financial terms of the agreement, which was first announced
in early July, were not disclosed.
Founded in 1880, Sethness is a
manufacturer of caramel colors for a variety of applications,
including non-G.M.O., certified organic and allergen-free.
The company has manufacturing plants in the United States,
France, India and China, and
the two companies operate joint
ventures in France and China.
Roquette is a global leader in
plant-based ingredients, operating in more than 100 countries.

O.T.A. to set up voluntary
check-off program
WASHINGTON - The Organic
Trade Association on Sept. 6
said it is moving forward with
a voluntary, industry-invested
organic research, promotion and
education check-off program.
The announcement comes after
the U.S. Department of Agriculture in May terminated the rulemaking process for a proposed
nationwide organic check-off
program run by the federal government. "The Organic Trade
Association recognizes great
demand for coordinated organic
research and promotion, and the
organic sector is ready to work
together on innovative solutions that will have key benefits
for organic," said Laura Batcha,
chief executive officer and executive director of the Washington-based association. MBN
