Scholarships for study of
milling engineering are now
being offered by the University of Minnesota with funds
being provided by companies
of the flour milling and grain
processing industry.
Victor Zimmerman, head of the
Cahokia Flour Co., St. Louis, and
one of the pioneer merchandisers
of flour in the St. Louis area, and
his wife were fatally injured in
an automobile collision Feb. 26.
The accident occurred when their
car collided head-on with an automobile on Highway 66, one of
the most heavily traveled roads
in St. Louis County. He was 72.
Charles F. Lingham, vicepresident and sales manager
of Federal Mills, Inc., Lockport, N.Y., and son of Fred J.
Lingham, who is president of
the company, was found dead
in his Pullman berth at Batavia, N.Y., Feb. 26. It is believed
that he died of a heart attack.
The British Ministry of Food
has allocated an additional
50,000 tons of barley for production of Scotch whiskey for
the next year.
Purchase of a line of 43 country
elevators in Kansas, Oklahoma
and Nebraska, with aggregate
grain storage capacity of about
800,000 bus, has been completed by the Continental Grain
Co., according to an announcement by Michel Fribourg, New
York president of Continental.
Wet-process corn millers
shipped products amounting
to 6,185,000 lbs in 1947, according to preliminary tabulations of manufacturers' data
in the 1948 Census of Manufactures. This total represents
an increase of 66% over the
aggregate in 1939, the previous Census of Manufactures.
Several of the national newspapers in England have stated
that the flour milling industry
is included in the British government's list of industries to
