Egg Products
Egg product prices were unchanged to
8c per lb lower last week. Customer offtake was reduced as many food manufacturers were closed for the week beginning
Christmas day or earlier in some cases.
Egg processors were open and taking the
opportunity to catch up or build inventories in preparation for large orders in late
December and early January.
The widest slides were seen in whole
frozen and liquid eggs, which continued
to mirror the path of breaking stock eggs.
U.S. egg production in November totaled 9.5 billion, up 4% from November
2018, the U.S. Department of Agriculture
said in its monthly Chickens and Eggs
report. Production included 8.32 billion
table eggs and 1.17 billion hatching eggs.
Of the hatchers, 1.09 billion were broilertype and 87.9 million were egg-type.
U.S. layers on Dec. 1 totaled 40 million, up 2% from a year ago. November
egg production per 100 layers was 78.6

Cocoa
Cocoa powder prices were steady.

Cocoa arrivals at Ivory Coast ports in
the week ended Dec. 22 were estimated
by exporters at 89,000 tonnes, up 11%
from the same week a year earlier. That
brought seasonal arrivals at the ports to
972,000 tonnes, up 1.5% from 958,000
tonnes during the same period in 2018.
Confectioners have partially offset the
$400-per-tonne living income differential
(l.i.d.) being applied to all 2020-21 Ivorian
and Ghanaian cocoa beans by negotiating
a lower "country premium" for high-quality supplies, trade sources told Reuters.
That premium for Ivorian cocoa beans previously reached $250 over the summer as
buyers stockpiled supplies in advance of
the incoming l.i.d. premium. The country
premium has since been slashed, in some
cases to zero, as Ivory Coast and Ghana
looked to shore up 2020-21 sales, which
were faltering as summer stockpiling gave
buyers a stronger bargaining position.
Some buyers were betting the l.i.d. would
be eliminated after Ivory Coast and Ghana
hold general elections in late 2020.
New York cocoa bean futures trended
higher after falling early in the week to a
seven-week low. MBN
