Kraft General Foods, the
multinational food business

Inc., disclosed that its Entenmann's, Inc. baking unit is
supplying fat-free, cholesterol-free apple bran muffins to
McDonald's Corp. restaurants
nationwide.
Mills Family Bakery, Inc.,
which acquired the Gadsden
and High Point (Jamestown),
N.C., baking plants of Flowers Industries, Inc., Thomasville, Ga., last October, has
shut down both operations.
H.J. Heinz Co., Pittsburgh,
has expanded its rapidly
growing frozen baked foods
business with the acquisition
of the Pestrito Companies,
a producer of hearth-style
Italian specialty baked foods
based at Blackwood, N.J.
A bill that would merge the
Commodity Futures Trading
Commission and Securities
and Exchange Commission into a single regulatory
agency with jurisdiction over
both equities and futures
was introduced in the House
of Representatives by Dan
Glickman of Kansas and Dennis Eckart of Ohio.

by the Senate of new legislation to require a minimum
fat content for bread and the
labeling of bread and rolls to
show the content.
J. Arthur Rank, noted British

the solution of our most perplexing problems. He leaves
thousands of friends in and
out of the industry who grieve
his passing."
Walter E. Sands of Sands,
Taylor & Wood, Inc., prominent flour distributors in
the New England area, has
assumed sole charge of the
company, having purchased
the interests of others associated in the business. It was
also announced that Donald
P. Sands Jr. has resigned.

the most!" J. Arthur Rank of
Joseph Rank Ltd., noted British miller and film producer,
made this statement in Kansas City April 5 at a luncheon
of members of the milling
and grain industries in his
honor.
To celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the
Allied Trades of the Baking Industry, which occurred April
21, 1920, in Chattanooga,
Tenn., the organization just
announced the establishment
of a Thirtieth Anniversary
Memorial Fund. The fund,
which will honor the founders of the A.T.B.I., headed
by Gordon Smith of Smith's
Bakery, Inc., Mobile, Ala., will
be used to provide a room for
the directors and an office for
the president of the American
Institute of Baking in the new
A.I.B. home in Chicago.
