Beneo launches organic
chicory root, rice starch
ingredients
Beneo, Parsippany, NJ, has introduced two new ingredients: Orafti organic chicory root fiber and Remyline O AX
DR organic waxy rice starch.
The Orafti organic chicory root fiber, which will be available in September, is grown and harvested by organic farmers in Belgium. Inulin and oligofructose in chicory root fiber
are plant-based prebiotic fiber, according to the International
Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics. Orafti
organic chicory root fiber has been shown to improve taste
and texture while reducing
sugar and fat in products like
baked foods, cereal, dairy items
and confectionery items, according to Beneo.
"Requests for organic chicory root fiber are constantly
growing, so we are pleased to

in the market to do so," said

Remyline O AX DR will launch in July. The waxy rice
starch contains no amylose, which means the ingredient
delivers better stability and less syneresis, according to Beneo. It has been shown to work in fruit preparations, meat
applications and poultry applications. Remyline O AX DR
has been shown to improve the texture of creamy desserts
and yogurts.

Epogee alternative fat
cleared for use in more
applications
Epogee LLC, Indianapolis, has received a "no questions"
letter from the US Food and Drug Administration concerning the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) use
for EPG alternative fat in additional applications. New
GRAS-approved categories include snack foods like potato chips, corn-based savory snacks, chicken nuggets,
plant-based protein products, beverages/beverage bases,
coffee and tea, and dairy product analogs.
Sourced from the rapeseed plant, EPG (esterified propoxylated glycerol) has been shown to reduce fat and total calories by as much as 45% because it resists digestive
enzyme action, according to Epogee. The FDA previously
sent a "no questions" letter on the GRAS status for its
use in other applications, including confectionery items,
bars, baked foods and mixes, frozen dairy and desserts,
spreads/dips/gravies and sauce, peanut and nut butters,
grain products and pasta, and frying applications.

AB Mauri enters Purecane
sweetener partnership
AB Mauri North America, St. Louis, a business of AB
Mauri, has signed a multi-year agreement with Amyris,
Inc., Emeryville, Calif., for the sale and purchase of Amyris' Purecane RebM zero-calorie sweetener for baking applications. The partnership is expected to allow AB Mauri's
customers to produce reduced-sugar baked foods with no
loss of flavor, texture or product appeal.
Amyris, which is a biotechnology company operating in
the clean health and beauty
markets and a supplier of
sustainable and natural ingredients, launched the Purecane
brand in December 2019.

of AB Mauri North America,
said the company is looking
forward to leveraging Amyris'
expertise in biotechnology for
the benefit of AB Mauri's industrial baking customers.
"While sugar plays an important role in baking, creating sweetness, color and texture in baked goods, excessive consumption is a leading cause of ill health in North
