Soft red winter wheat exports
at only sluggish pace
High prices that have been a feature of the soft red
winter wheat market the entire crop year to date have
dramatically limited export volumes. The USDA indicated
that as of Jan. 14, exports and undelivered sales of soft
red winter wheat for delivery in 2020-21 aggregated 58.2
million bus, down about 26% from a year ago. In contrast,
hard red winter wheat export transactions for 2020-21
were less than 3% behind a year ago, and hard red spring
wheat export transactions were 8% ahead.

92 million in 2019-20.

IGC leaves flour export
forecast unchanged

new CFO

LONDON - World flour exports in 2020-21 are forecast
to remain the same as the previous quarter, at 15.1 million
tonnes wheat equivalent, according to the International
Grains Council's (IGC) recent
grain market report. If realized, it would be a 5.5% increase over last year's total of
14.3 million tonnes. The IGC
noted that the year-on-year
increase includes " a rebound
in shipments to Uzbekistan,
Iraq and Afghanistan. " Afghanistan and Iraq are forecast
to be the largest flour importers at 2.5 million and 2 million
tonnes, respectively. Turkey
and Kazakhstan are once again
forecast to be the leading flour
exporters, with each seeing a
slight increase in shipments
over the previous year.

LONDON - Vivid Sehgal has
been named chief financial officer for Tate & Lyle PLC, effective May 1. He will join
the company and the board
of directors on March 1. Most
recently, Mr. Sehgal was CFO
for Delphi Technologies PLC,
a role he held for three years.
Before that, he was CFO for
LivaNova PLC for two years.
Previously, Mr. Sehgal was senior vice president of treasury,
risk and investor relations at
Allergan Inc., and prior to that
was regional finance director
of the Gillette brand for Procter
& Gamble. Earlier in his career,
Mr. Sehgal held financial management positions at GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Diageo.
Mr. Sehgal will succeed Imran
Nawaz, who announced in October 2020 that he would leave
his post as CFO of Tate & Lyle
to become CFO of Tesco PLC.

Corbion to increase
lactic acid capacity
LENEXA, KAN. - Corbion
has announced plans to increase its capacity for producing lactic acid in North
America by around 40%, a
move designed to meet the
growing demand for natural
ingredients in multiple industries. As part of the production increase, Corbion said
it will expand capacity at its
plant in Blair, Neb. The company will employ technology
designed to enable a significant boost in efficiency while
avoiding an increase in emissions, Corbion said. " Our customers in the Americas see
long-term value in our lactic
acid-based technologies, so
we are investing to ensure we
can continue to supply what's
needed, " said Marco Bootz,
president of lactic acid and
