H&S Bakery unveils plans for new
artisan bakeshop and cafe
BALTIMORE - H&S Bakery is moving
into the retail baking market with the
debut of Kneads, a new bakeshop and
cafe. The new concept is set to debut this
summer.
Located in a 17,000-square-foot space
in Harbor East in Baltimore, Kneads will
specialize in handcrafted bread and baked
foods made daily from scratch in-house.
The bakeshop and cafe also will offer
gourmet sandwiches and pastries.
The 7,400-square-foot bakeshop will be
enclosed by glass walls, which will allow
guests to observe the baking process. The
bakeshop will be capable of producing up
to thousands of pounds of bread per hour,
according to H&S Bakery. A " bakelab "
will offer flexible and functional space,
including a wall that may be opened for
additional seating and closed to accommodate
private events, meeting space, baking
lessons and other community events.
The cafe, meanwhile, will feature a
vintage H&S Bakery truck that will serve
as the " to-go " window in the marketplace
section of the cafe. The
cafe also includes custom lights
resembling baking whisks, as well
as a historical timeline with key
highlights of H&S Bakery's early
beginnings in Baltimore.
Kneads is partnering with local
coffee roaster Aveley Farms Coffee
as the exclusive coffee vendor.

ABA agrees with Supreme Court
ruling to stay vaccine mandates
WASHINGTON - A Supreme Court ruling
Jan. 13 concerning vaccine mandates
drew a positive response from the American
Bakers Association.
By a 6-3 vote the court granted a stay
on the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration's COVID-19 vaccination
and testing emergency temporary standard
(ETS). The decision means OSHA
cannot enforce the standard that went
into effect Jan. 10 and must wait for lower
courts to consider the case.
" We are encouraged the Supreme Court
agreed this emergency standard could
cause irreparable harm on our industry's
ability to feed Americans, " said Robb
MacKie, president and chief executive
officer of the ABA. " Even with the stay
in the implementation of the ETS, our
members will continue to do everything
in their power to keep employees safe,
including encouraging COVID-19 vaccinations
and following all relevant safety

CDC (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention) recommendations. We look

Americans as this public health emergency

The vaccine mandate applies to about
84 million workers covering virtually all
employers with at least 100 employees,
according to the Supreme Court ruling.
Exceptions were made for workers who
obtain a medical test each week at their
own expense and on their own time and
who wear a mask at work.
OSHA published its vaccine mandate
on Nov. 5, 2021. The Fifth US Circuit Court
entered a stay, but the Sixth US Circuit
Court lifted the stay and allowed OSHA's
rule to take effect. The Supreme Court
disagreed with the Sixth Circuit Court
in its Jan. 13 ruling, calling the mandate a
" significant encroachment " into the lives
and health of employees.

Justices Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor
and Elena Kagan dissented, citing
OSHA estimates that the vaccine mandate
would save over 6,500 lives and prevent
over 250,000 hospitalizations in six
months' time.
" In our view, the court's order seriously
misapplies the applicable legal standards,
and in so doing, it stymies the federal government's
ability to counter the unparalleled
threat that COVID-19 poses to our
