Grupo Bimbo purchases fleet of
seven electric trucks
MEXICO CITY -Grupo Bimbo SAB de
CV has purchased an electric truck fleet
from Swedish automotive manufacturer
Scania AB. It is Scania's first electric truck
fleet in Latin America.
According to Scania, the fleet consists of
seven 2024-model 25P B4x2 rigid electric
trucks from Scania México. These 100%
electric vehicles, which can load up to 11.5
tonnes, will be driven on urban routes and
equipped with the Advanced Driver Assistance
System (ADAS) 2.0. Scania maintenance
contracts also will cover each truck
to ensure its " maximum availability. "
Scania México said the deal is part of its
commitment to launching a new electric
truck each year. The company is aiming
for electric trucks to be 10% of its vehicle
offering by 2025 and 100% by 2050. The
fleet also will allow Grupo Bimbo to continue
reducing its own carbon emissions,
with 80% of the electricity it consumes
now coming from renewable sources.

SnackFutures selects nine snack
brands for third CoLab
CHICAGO - SnackFutures, the innovation
and venture team at Mondelez International,
Inc., has unveiled the nine rising
snack brands participating in its third
annual CoLab.
First launched in 2021, CoLab is a
startup program that helps Mondelez
build a portfolio of " disruptive brands
and venture pipeline. " Participants will
based and clean label.
Freezcake: Offering small bites of
cheesecakes that are prepared from
scratch and dried while they're still fresh.
Incredible Eats: A producer of edible
spoons and straws that not only are sweet
and savory but also may be used in frozen
foods for about an hour.
Legally Addictive: Provides cracker-based
cookies that come in many
flavors and are topped with chocolate,
handmade salted toffee.
Mezcla: A wide selection of plant-based
snack bars.
New Gem: A packaged foods company
that uses technology to make its plantbased
sandwich wraps alternatives to
bread, tortillas and seaweed.
Steiner's Coffee Cakes of New York: A
receive a 12-week curriculum of virtual
and hands-on sessions as well as networking
opportunities and a $20,000 grant.
The 2023 CoLab class participants are:
CoCoTerra: A company that lets people
make dark, milk and white chocolate from
the comfort of their homes.
DreamPops: A confectionery company
offering a variety of frozen pops, bites
and shelf stable candy that are all plant

maker of gluten-free coffee cakes.
Whole Dough: A producer of shelf-stable
cookie dough bars that are plantbased,
gluten-free and vegan.

on snack innovation, get us even closer
to the consumer, and accelerate our financial,
reputational, and cultural growth, "

Grupo Bimbo ordered the electric vehicle
fleet after completing a successful trial
period of a 25P B4x2 electric truck, which
began in 2022, as part of both companies'
shared commitment to move toward sustainable

Frito-Lay opens
distribution
center in W.Va.
PLANO, TEXAS - Frito-Lay, a division
of PepsiCo, Inc., opened a new distribution
center in Scott Depot, W.Va., on May 9. The
company said the $16 million facility (along
with its more than 100 associates) will not
only receive and distribute snacks that are
made and packaged in Charlotte, Wooster
and Lynchburg but also create at least 25
new jobs in the company, with more positions
likely to open up through the end of
this financial year.
The 70,000-square-foot distribution center
includes 35 loading docks and is four
times larger than the previous center in
Poca, W.Va
" Frito-Lay has a storied history in West
Virginia, having been present in this
great state for more than 40 years, " said
Laura Maxwell, senior vice president of
supply chain for PepsiCo Foods North
America. " Today, we're proud to celebrate
the next chapter as we open our new, $16
million distribution center right here in
Scott Depot. "
The facility will add to the nearly
700 other West Virginia residents that
already are employed by Frito-Lay and
