mall and mid-size meat and poultry processors will converge on Grand Rapids, Mich., for the American Association of Meat Processors' 65th annual

convention and trade show. The AAMP show is always an enjoyable affair,

but this year's agenda has an edge to it.
Listeria regulations, federal inspection
and bovine spongiform encephalopathy are
all topics that stand out on the meeting's
schedule. Sessions focusing on tax planning, sales strategies and marketing initiatives are also on the agenda, but AAMP officials have set aside ample time to discuss
the issues that are of the greatest importance to their members.
This year's meeting will also feature several
familiar events, including the opening reception, American Cured Meat Championships
and annual banquet. The opening reception
will be July 15 on the grounds of the Gerald
Ford Museum. The banquet will be held on
July 17 and attendees will have an opportunity
to sample various members' special products.
It also wouldn't be an AAMP convention
without the A.C.M.C. The competition has
expanded over the years to cover a variety
of products, including hams, bacon, jerky,
and sausages. Hundreds of products are
entered in 25 to 30 categories each year.
Recent additions include an Andouille category and a Braunschweiger class. Rules

The meeting will be held at DeVos Place, a
new convention center located in the heart of
Grand Rapids. AAMP staff will be based at the
Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. Exhibits, education sessions and the A.C.M.C. will be held at
DeVos Place, approximately one block away.
