considerably after Cooper Farms implemented an employee massage program
a few years ago, Saintignon says.
While every day is different, Saintignon says every day is also busy. For
instance, she recently spent a good
part of the morning on the phone with
an employee who had a work-related
medical problem and had questions
about physical therapy.
"My adrenaline wasn't flowing, but I
was on the phone all morning trying to
coordinate services for her so she could
continue her therapy," Saintignon says.

employees might bring personal problems
from home to work and consult Saintignon about how to deal with them.
"To me, those are harder situations
to deal with than if somebody is hurt,"
Saintignon says. "When I say it's something different every day, I mean it's truly something different every day."
While the financial benefits of a having an occupational nurse on staff at most
any meat and poultry plant are obvious,
it's difficult to pinpoint how much money
they can save the companies for which
they work. At the very least, the advice
they offer employees to make the right
lifestyle choices to live healthier lives is
priceless, Johnson points out. "You can't
put a dollar figure on that," she adds.
Johnson says an occupational health
nurse can bring value to most any meat
and poultry operation. "We wear many
hats," she adds.
