Over the past month or so, Dr. Temple Grandin's schedule has been
jam-packed, but not because she's
bouncing from one processing plant
to the next, as she's accustomed to
doing. Grandin, the subject of an
HBO movie about her life and how
she has managed to not only survive,
but thrive despite being autistic, has
been making a dizzying number
of personal appearances and conducting interviews with media of
all kinds as she promotes the biopic, "Temple Grandin." The movie,
which stars Claire Danes, made its
debut on HBO earlier this month

shows (including "The Late Show
with David Letterman"), CNN programming (including the "The Joy Behar Show") as well as feature stories about her published in People and other
mainstream magazines.
Having previewed the movie this past November, M&P editors realize the
media buzz isn't unwarranted, as the depiction of Temple Grandin is nothing short of fascinating. We look forward to hosting a dinner with Grandin
as the guest of honor next month in Kansas City and are honored M&P is
the only industry magazine she writes for and has for more than 20 years. ■

Translating age
Last month's Webinar, "Fresh Year,
Fresh Start", hosted by Meat&Poultry
on behalf of Sealed Air Corp.'s Cryovac brand, included an interactive
Q&A session that addressed the perception of freshness among Hispanic
consumers. An attendee submitted
a question about whether or not the
concept of aged beef translates to
quality among Hispanic foodservice
customers. While no research has
been done to determine the answer
to the question, we thought it served
as a wake-up call for educating a category of customers that could push
beef sales to new levels. ■

Creating a buzz

During this past month's International Poultry Expo, exhibitors and
attendees alike were buzzing about
the presence of a large contingency of Tyson Foods officials walking the show
f loor each
day. Clad in
the company's signature khaki pants and shirts and emblazoned with the bold Tyson logo
and the employee's name, it was hard
to miss the packs of visitors from the
company's headquarters and plants.
One exhibitor whispered that the
company's very visible presence at
this year's IPE was a corporate mandate and was intended to send a signal to their Brazilian-based counterparts at JBS. ■
