I-Cut Bone machine

In the expansive show halls at the 2010
IFFA expo, where engineered precision
was a theme, Marel Food Systems and
its Townsend Further Processing division epitomized world-class innovation
at its bustling booth. With a complete and

Townsend's RevoPortioner was one of
its most significant product introductions
made during the show. More than a dozen units are operating in North America
already and more than 100 units operate globally. The technology behind the
RevoPortioner utilizes low-pressure rotary portioning for products ranging from
lean beef to whole-muscle poultry to meat
mixtures. Processors are able to manufacture almost any conceivable "dimensional"
product shape with less leakage and better product texture. No water is used in the
process, which means no smears, no lips
and better product appearance. Portioning
drums are easy to switch out and maintenance costs are reduced compared to
traditional high-pressure plate systems.

Intelligent cutting

I-Cut 22 offers high-speed portion cutting

functional integrated poultry deboning and
trimming line as its centerpiece, the MarelTownsend booth drew hundreds of eager
visitors each day, some of whom were interested in the company's poultry-processing solutions, while others were focused
on technology for red-meat applications.

Garnering plenty of attention from processors of bone-in products at the
Frankfurt show was Marel's I-Cut Bone
machine. The I-Cut is fed product that
is conveyed first to a 3-D scanner to determine the precise density of the product and where the cut should be made
for fixed-weight portioning. The product is automatically held stable during
the precise cutting process, delivering
maximum yield and minimal bone splintering. The I-Cut is easily controlled by
a touch-screen that is programmable to
make production adjustments on the fly,

without unnecessary stops and starts.
It also is designed for integration with
other Marel equipment to provide startto-finish solutions, including portioning,
stacking batch weighing and loading.

Precision for poultry
Marel's portioning expertise for poultry processors was also showcased
at IFFA. At speeds of up to 3,000 cuts
per minute, Marel's I-Cut line of poultry-portioning equipment drew a crowd
from the international attendees visiting
the company's booth. The I-Cut 36 not
only boasts up to 1,000 precision portion cuts per minute, but also delivers
natural-looking poultry products. Its
compact design and ability to cut at up
to a 45-degree angle and rapidly make
multiple cuts on all sizes of products offers processors flexibility and productivity
that ensure a quick return on investment.
Likewise, Marel's I-Cut 22 offers highspeed portion cutting but utilizes a twolane format, each of which can make up
to 1,500 cuts per minute and, like the ICut 36, can cut at a 45-degree angle. The
I-Cut 22 is designed for high-capacity,
precision cutting of poultry products up
to 190-mm wide and 40 mm in height.
