CONFERENCE PREVIEW POSITIVE OUTLOOK NAMI Annual Meeting and Outlook Conference promises education, networking and industry advocacy BY K I M B E R L I E C LYM A | kc l y m a @ s o s l a n d.c o m T The conference will offer an education program, plenty of networking opportunities and business meetings. 100 he North American Meat Institute (NAMI) will host its Annual Meeting and Outlook Conference in Washington, DC, Nov. 2-5. The conference will offer an education program, networking opportunities and business meetings at the Fairmont Washington, DC. The conference will include committee meetings, the NAMI annual meeting and a joint NAMI/Canadian Meat Council (CMC) Board of Directors meeting. The event is also co-located with the Meat Industry Hall of Fame Induction Dinner, to be held on Monday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. Throughout the four days, NAMI members are invited to attend and participate in various committee meetings and forums, including Joint Scientific Affairs Committee/Food Safety and Inspection Affairs Committee; Communications and Marketing Committee; Supplier Committee with a forum featuring key processors; Foodservice Committee; Intellectual Properties Committee; International Affairs Committee; and Labor, Employment and Worker Safety Committee. The conference will kick off with its Opening General Session on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 8:45 a.m. Jack Bobo, chief communications officer for Intrexon Corp., will present, "Can agriculture save the planet before it destroys it?" Wednesday's discussions will open with a presentation by Cameron Bruett, head of corporate affairs at JBS/Pilgrim's called, "Sustainability: A journey of continuous improvement." Next, administrators from five US Dept. of Agriculture agencies will MEAT+ POULTRY | 10.15 | www.meatpoultry.com come together for a leadership panel. The agencies include the Food Safety and Inspection Service, Agricultural Marketing Service, Foreign Agriculture Service, Animal Plant Health Inspection Service, and Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyards Administration. Also, on Wednesday morning, attendees can hear a presentation titled, "Less Meat, More Money: Protein and the Plate Research," that will cover how consumers' choices about meat in their diets is changing. At 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, Marjorie Troxel-Hellmer, president of Cypress Research Associates, will present the results from the 2015 Salary & Job Satisfaction Survey. MEAT+POULTRY collaborated with NAMI on this exclusive survey for the meat and poultry industry - the first of its kind in five years. She will present benchmarking data for key management positions, in addition to reporting about trends in benefits and job satisfaction. Simultaneous breakout sessions will be held throughout the conference on various topics including beef economic outlook, family business governance, pork economic outlook, Washington insider legislative issues panel, business growth through modern marketing, foodservice focus, crisis management, innovation at retail, and developing an approved supplier program. The Showcase Reception, Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 5-7 p.m., will provide attendees with an opportunity to network with colleagues, as well as learn about innovation products and services from NAMI supplier members. There will also be a Capitol Hill Reception Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., where attendees can interact with the professionals who influence agriculture and business policy. Business owners and managers, management personnel - including QA/QC, food safety, production, sales, marketing, and public relations - as well as NAMI committee members and board members are encouraged to attend this year's conference.
