PREMIUM PURCHASING
AND PACKAGING TRENDS
Mondi Group and Dow Chemical conducted a survey of
premium pet food consumers, which included 605 pet owners
living in the US who had purchased one of 17 premium
or super premium brands of pet food within a month of
participating in the survey. The survey asked questions about
their premium pet food purchasing habits and preferences.
WEIGHING THE OPTIONS
A majority (61%) of dog owners
tend to purchase pet food in bags
weighing 15-lbs. or larger, while
nearly half (47%) of cat owners
prefer purchasing pet food in
bags weighing 6 to 15 lbs.
Slightly more than half (55%) of those surveyed reside in coastal
states, with 45% living in the heartland states. Dog owners
account for 80% of those surveyed; 56% own cats; 36% own at
least one dog and one cat; and 45% own more than one pet.
