More of a
good thing

"You can never have too much of a
good thing."
As clichés go, this one has its limits. So
much so, it spawned another truism: "Too
much of a good thing can be a bad thing."
A couple of drinks is OK for most adults, but ten drinks isn't good for any
of us. Ditto for brownies, cookies and trips to the buffet.
But clichés don't get to the point where you can roll your eyes at them unless they have a lot of truth to begin with. You can never have too much fresh
air, too much support from your loved ones, too many championship seasons
from your local teams.
And, if you're reading this, you will agree that it's hard to make too many
trips to the grocery fresh perimeter. Freshness, health, variety, ﬂavor, innovation, authenticity, experiences - it's little wonder that perimeter departments
are getting the most buzz and generating the biggest sales increases.
We at Sosland Publishing have been hearing it for years, and with the
launch of Supermarket Perimeter - the inaugural copy of which you hold in
your hands - you could say we ﬁnally got the message.
For 15 years, our InStore magazine covered a few fresh perimeter departments: bakery, deli, specialty dairy and prepared foods. These are dynamic,
growing sections of the store, and with Supermarket Perimeter, we will continue to keep as close an eye on them as we always have.
But bakery, deli, dairy and prepared are just a few pieces of the perimeter
puzzle. There is just as much creativity, excitement and, yes, growth in the
other perimeter departments: meat and poultry, seafood and fresh produce.
Freshness, health, variety, ﬂavor, innovation, authenticity and experiences are common to the entire perimeter. With Supermarket Perimeter, we will
cover not only all of the individual perimeter departments but also the trends,
themes and story lines they share.
We enjoyed covering one corner of the fresh perimeter. We're really excited to cover a lot more of it -all of it, in fact. It's a good thing.
