Supplier’s Corner Onward and Upward n a continuing effort toward the improvement of relations and communication between the association, the membership and, specifically, the supplier members, this “Supplier’s Corner” column has been added as a regular feature to Snack World. Through this column, the Associate Executive Council (AEC) president will be provided an opportunity to convey updates on those things that are in process or of interest to the membership. We have initiated a monthly conference call to be held between the officers of AEC, the SFA chairman of the board and SFA staff. The first of these was held recently, and we addressed several issues. We recognized that a set of governing rules for our supplier group needs to be written that emulates and complements those rules that govern the business member portion of the association. With this in mind, SFA will be working with its legal counsel to draft language accordingly, and a vote should be held shortly. SFA president and CEO Jim McCarthy, looking to improve the value and return of our membership, discussed the concept of broadening the exposure of snack food supplier members outside of SNAXPO events. For example, we discussed adding exposure as a snack food supplier at PMMI. Matt Colford, SFA chairman, suggested that there be an evaluation and restructuring of committees as they now stand to ensure they are effective and relevant. With this thought in mind, the initiation of a Marketing Committee has been recommended. This committee’s primary responsibilities would be to market the association to a broadening membership and facilitate improved communications both internally and externally. The executive committee was scheduled to take up this issue at its meeting May 9 in Washington, DC. I hope you will find the items contained in this column helpful. If you have suggestions or recommendations for topics, I am open to your thoughts. I do and will always strongly recommend that our members become ever more deeply involved in our association. Only through involvement and participation do we grow stronger, continually improve and realize the results of our investment in the future of the Snack Food Association and, ultimately, the snack food industry. Thank you for your commitment to our association. Sincerely, I LOZANO Mark A.
