New Snacks CRACKLINS The latest addition to the Southern Recipe line from Rudolph Foods, Lima, OH, is the Red Pepper Cracklin Dipper. The new scoop shape is designed to hold a large amount of dip, meeting consumer demand for a more filling, robust snacking experience. With 0 g carbs and more protein than a serving of peanuts, according to the company, the cracklins are a healthy snacking option. The Red Pepper Dippers are available in southern and southeastern states in 3.5-oz packages. ALL-NATURAL JERKY Oberto Sausage Co., Kent, WA, introduces its Oh Boy, Oberto! all-natural jerky line. Free from preservatives or artificial flavors, the jerky’s ingredients include beef, turkey or pork; sugar; water; salt; and spices. The highprotein snacks are available in Original Beef Jerky, Teriyaki Beef Jerky, Peppered Beef Jerky, Hickory Beef Jerky, BBQ Pork Jerky and Teriyaki Turkey Jerky varieties, and the company claims the all-natural switch improved the flavor. Despite the switch to all-natural ingredients, pricing will remain the same: 3.25-oz packages retail for $5.99, 1.5-oz for $2.99 and 9-oz for $14.49. FUDGE-FILLED COOKIES Nabisco Chips Ahoy! cookies from Kraft Foods, East Hanover, NJ, get gooey with the new Chocofudge and Megafudge varieties. Made with real chocolate chips, the cookies are filled with smooth, creamy fudge, which becomes even gooier after heating in the microwave for a few seconds. The Chocofudge flavor hides a layer of fudge inside a soft chocolate chip cookie while the Megafudge flavor envelops the fudge in a brownie-like chocolate chip cookie. Both varieties retail in a 10-oz pack for $3.79. GLUTEN-FREE PRETZELS Snyder’s-Lance, Inc., Charlotte, NC, launches Gluten-Free Pretzel Sticks under its Snyder’s of Hanover brand. Made with corn, potato and tapioca starch, the glutenfree pretzels contain 110 Cal per 30-g serving, 1.5 g fat with 0.5 g saturated fat, 1 g fiber and 0 g sugar. The company claims that unlike other gluten-free pretzels, these pretzel sticks deliver a great pretzel taste and crunch. Each multipack, containing eight 100-Cal bags, retails for $4.99. 24 Snack World August 2011 TRANS FAT-FREE CHIPS Shearer’s Foods, Brewster, OH, unveils its 0-g trans fats line of potato chips. Available in Classic, Rippled, Barbeque and Sour Cream & Onion varieties, the chips are made with 100% high-oleic canola oil. The chips contain on average 160 Cal, 10 g fat with 1 g saturated fat, 180 mg sodium and 2 g protein per 1-oz serving, with the Classic and Rippled flavors on the lower end of the range. They retail in 10-oz bags for $3.49. BEEF SNACKS The newest member of the Jack Link’s family from Link Snacks, Inc., Minong, WI, is Steakhouse Recipe Beef Steak meat snack. Packed with flavors of grilled steak, sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions, each 2-oz serving contains 130 Cal, 2 g fat with 1 g saturated fat, 910 mg sodium and 21 g protein. Available in caddy or counter top displays for retailers, the 2-oz packages retail for $2.79.
