Supplier’s Corner Time for Change A LOZANO s we fast approach the 75th anniversary celebration of the Snack Food Association, it is a time for reflection and vision. While our association has grown in scope, it has shrunk in numbers. Our association — whose roots were born of small regional chippers — has experienced the fits and starts of an ever-evolving marketplace. As I prepare to hand the Associate Executive Council presidency to my successor — Charlie Rufo, market development manager at Inteplast, AmTopp BOPP, Livingston, NJ — I look back on what it is we tried to achieve and what has been accomplished, the ideas promoted and those left to be revived, and I marvel at our association. We have been blessed in that our organization, fluid and molded by the hands of a continually changing leadership, has been steered with the growth and the well-being of the industry at the heart and mind of its actions. May we continue to be so fortunately guided. However, I would like to suggest that it is now time for consideration of interorganizational cooperation and the physical co-locating of events. There have been a few attempts at doing so, but in a shrinking pool of resources, there is strength both in versatility and in numbers. Working with organizations such as the National Confectioners Association, the Biscuit & Cracker Manufacturers’ Association, the Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association, and the Tortilla Industry Association will reduce costs and allow the organizations to put a strengthened face forward to address legislative as well as fiscal issues and concerns. Such action will gather more supplier members as our reach to more opportunities increases. Last, I wish to thank all of you for affording me the opportunity to serve this past year.
