This became the seventh variety in the line that also includes Hot Buffalo Wing, Buttermilk Ranch, Cheddar Cheese, Honey Mustard and Onion, Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper, and Jalapeño Pretzel. Earlier this year, Snyder’s of Hanover doubled down on the popularity of its flavored pretzel pieces by offering two new products with two different flavored products in each bag. The Flavor Doubles line hit stores in January and comes in Hot Buffalo Wing & Buttermilk Ranch and Cheddar Cheese & Cracked Pepper varieties. “Our pretzel pieces are loved for the bold flavor, and this new product line is all about offering fan-favorite flavors in one bag of pretzels,” said Bob Gould, Snyder’s-Lance marketing manager. To celebrate summer holidays, Snyder’s of Hanover will release Patriot Pretzels in shapes of flags, stars and liberty bells. “These summer-themed shapes just add to the fun of enjoying BROUGHT TO YOU BY J.R. Pretzels Inc. makes more than 900 varieties of pretzels in more than 50 shapes and 20 sizes. The company, which mainly serves as a contract and private label snack manufacturer, launched Trussetts, a crisscross-shaped pretzel crisp, in 2011. “The Trussett is the foundation for your snacking,” Mr. Mann said, noting that it can carry customized flavors and is designed for dipping. Trussetts pretzel crisps are available in a variety of flavors, including Buffalo, Barbecue, Parmesan and Garlic, Three Cheese, and Honey Mustard. While he described the barbecue flavor as unique for a pretzel, he said the Buffalo flavor is pretty much a standard in pretzels these days. “The demographic of pretzel consumers tends to be male, so that flavor profile really fits in,” Mr. Mann added. Because pretzels contain little fat, they are often deemed a healthier snack, and the new flat pretzel variety’s crispy, crackery texture and taste will only help bolster its standing as a salty snack. — Shane Whitaker http://www.sfa.org
