Snack World - May 2013 - (Page 4)

Letter from SFA Let Your Voice Be Heard I f you were at SNAXPO in Tampa, you know what a terrific event that was — the busy and truly vibrant trade show, the outstanding speakers and educational program, and the networking opportunities all coming together to produce a worthwhile and meaningful convention for all involved. We want to express our appreciation to everyone who attended and participated and, most especially, to the many companies that sponsored events and activities at SNAXPO. Without your support, none of this could have possibly happened. A highlight of SNAXPO was the annual State of the Snack Food Industry report presented by SymphonyIRI. That presentation is detailed in this issue of Snack World along with additional information and data specifying the performance of major industry categories. Looking ahead, we want to encourage every member company to be represented at the 2013 Legislative Summit in Washington, DC, to be held July 16-18 in conjunction with the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI). SFA is joining with these other associations to present a united front for the food industry as we meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. However, we will be out front on issues that uniquely affect the snack food industry as well. This is your opportunity to meet face-to-face with lawmakers and key staff members and to express your concerns about key issues affecting your company. So let your voice be heard! We also want to draw your attention to other important events later in the year and encourage your participation: the Total Quality Management Course at Ohio State University, Sept. 9-13; the Executive Leadership Forum at Montage Deer Valley, Park City, UT, Sept. 28-Oct. 1; and the Snack School at Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, Oct. 13-15. The planning committees for each of these events started earlier this May developing the programs and encourage your participation. These programs are designed for the SFA members, and your voice regarding potential topics is valued and appreciated. Please mark your calendars now for these events. Visit www.sfa.org and monitor the Snack Report for additional information about these events, as well as PACK EXPO Las Vegas, Sept. 23-25. We hope you enjoy this issue of Snack World and, as always, invite your comments and suggestions. McCARTHY MANN Sincerely, William (Chip) Mann II Chairman Snack Food Association President and Co-owner Pretzels, Inc. 4 Snack World May 2013 www.sfa.org Jim McCarthy President and CEO Snack Food Association http://www.sfa.org http://www.sfa.org
