oday, Snyder's-Lance, Inc., based in Charlotte,
NC, manufactures and markets snack foods
across the nation and internationally. With
nearly $1.8 billion in annual sales, the company's
portfolio of popular snack products includes pretzels,
sandwich crackers, pretzel crackers, potato chips, cookies, tortilla chips, restaurant-style crackers, nuts and
other snacks.
And with manufacturing facilities in North Carolina,
Pennsylvania, Iowa, Indiana, Georgia, Arizona, Massachusetts, Florida, Ohio and Ontario, Canada, the company is a far cry from what its founders imagined when
Olde Tyme Pretzels were first produced in 1909, when
Grandma Edna and Edward Snyder II began frying potato chips in a kettle and selling them door-to-door, or
when in 1913, a Charlotte food broker named Philip L.
Lance got stuck with 500 lb of raw peanuts and decided
to roast and sell them for a nickel a bag.

peanut butter, and two years later, his wife, Mary, and
two daughters spread Lance's peanut butter between
two crackers and created what is today's famous peanut
butter cracker sandwich.

Snyder's and Lance - growth, expansion, innovation, and new products - and in 2010, the companies
merged to become the Snyder's-Lance, Inc. powerhouse
that it is today.
Over those years, the Snack Food Association (SFA)
has been important to both companies as they grew.
"Snyder's-Lance has had a long history of supporting the SFA," said SFA President and CEO Tom Dempsey,
with executives from both serving on the Board of
Directors and participating in the association's major
events and activities.
The company agrees with Mr. Dempsey's assessment. "We are proud to be members of SFA and find
our partnership to be both valuable and immensely
resourceful. They have long provided us with expertise
and guidance that we can apply to almost every aspect
of our business," says Dan Morgan, senior vice-president,
Snyder's-Lance.
In the 1940s, Snyder's Bakery, then based in Hanover,
PA, expanded its operation and modernized its facilities,
including the addition of an automated direct fire ferry
fryer. Distribution expanded south to Norfolk, VA, west
to Pittsburgh and north to New York as the company
began using aluminum foil bags to extend product shelf
