NAXPO 2016 in Houston, TX, is now in the books, and what a great SNAXPO it was. It was well attended and
provided some of the best educational sessions and speakers we've ever had. But the biggest news coming
out of Houston was the announcement of our newly rebranded organization, SNAC International, making it
more inviting to all members of the snacking industry.
Having rebranded ourselves, we begin the work of bringing more snack manufacturing companies into our
organization. As chairman of SNAC International, my goal is to see snack manufacturers of all kinds come to see the
association as indispensable to running their businesses.
Although our name is new, we'll continue the efforts to make SNAC International as relevant as we always have,
through education, advocacy and networking. We'll diligently continue this with an eye toward all types of snack
food companies.
It's abundantly clear that the snack industry has had a rough go the past year in Washington, DC, but the dedicated staff of SNAC International worked hard so that we were heard by key members of Congress. They worked
even harder to communicate the successes and frustrations to us. No one can dispute that our organization had our
collective voices heard over the past year.
As trends in snacking change, keeping on top of these trends is an absolute must, and SNAC International is there
to assist as well. Our offerings of educational programs and webinars are both numerous and of the highest quality
- and they are free to members. Our Quality & Innovation Management Course, our Emerging Leaders Program,
and the Food Safety Preventive Controls Workshop are all of incredible value for any size company.
Networking opportunities are also abundant at SNAC International. Managers and supervisors all the way up to
executive leadership have the opportunity to discuss our industry, trends we're seeing, and problems we're facing.
There is great benefit in discussing these issues - which we all face - with other members of the industry.
Indispensable? You bet!
In the coming year, I look forward to working with Tom Dempsey and the entire SNAC International staff, as well
as my friend Jeff Higgins, the new AEC president, to make SNAC International indispensable for you, too.
