nacking has truly been embraced as a lifestyle
choice by the American consumer, and they
are using snack occasions as part of a balanced way of eating. People work hard and play hard
navigating busy lives, and they need snacks that deliver clean, healthy ingredients, functional attributes
and on-the-go convenience.
The constant evolution of new snacking occasions
is a significant driver for growth, and producers
must meet the demand for just about any snacking
opportunity - between meals, after exercise, meal
replacement or even better-for-you indulgence.
In the past, snacking between meals was discouraged, but today's health-conscientious eating
embraces the consumption of several snacks or small
meals per day.
"Snacks as meal replacements is not a new idea,
but we see it continue to grow and anticipate it will
become more important for consumers," said Chris

Breakfast is emerging as an untapped opportunity
for innovation with producers now adding protein or
including whole or sprouted grains to boost fiber and
increase satiety. While bars, crackers and nuts and seeds
offer meal replacement options, new products such as
Minong, WI-based Jack Links AM Breakfast Bacon meat
snack target different parts of the day.
"Meat snacks are a high protein, modest calorie
snack for a healthy on-the-go breakfast," said Jared
Koerten, senior food analyst, Euromonitor International, at SNAXPO 2017.
Better-for-you is still the battle cry, and the industry expects more mindful, nutritional eating to
stay strong. As a result, snack manufacturers have
responded by simplifying labels, embracing the use
of clean, fresh ingredient inclusions and creating
products free from artificial flavors or colors.
