ating more protein-packed foods resonates
with health-focused consumers looking for an
energy boost or substantial meal replacement.
Nuts and seeds have always been a natural source of
protein, and tapping into this has earned the category
almost $4.2 billion in sales for the 52 weeks ending Feb.
19, 2017, according to IRI.
Joe Lupica, vice-president of marketing, SuperSeedz
Gourmet Pumpkin Seeds, North Haven, CT, said the category is ripe with opportunity in several areas including
innovative flavors, product formats and relevance to
new consumers through added convenience. "We also
see certain consumer segments - vegans,vegetarians
and celiac-diagnosed - looking for flavorful options
that fit their dietary restrictions," Mr. Lupica said.
In addition to healthy attributes, unique flavors drive
this category. Adventurous flavor profiles appeal to the

consumer looking for a new taste experience, according
to GlobalData's Product Launch Analytics database of
new products.
"U Gottabee Nutz launched unique flavors like Caramel & Sea Salt Cashews, Rosemary & Meyer Lemon
Almonds, and Balsamic Habanero Pistachios," said
