business growth, the second line will be installed
in the summer of 2018, according to Chip Mann.
Ultimately, the facility could be expanded to a total
of 135,000 sq ft.
Production runs seven days a week at Plymouth's
SQF Level 3 facility, which was designed with the
help of The Austin Co., and built to the highest standards rated for protein, according to Paul Schaum,
COO. Mr. Schaum orchestrated the accelerated construction and ramping up of the operation.
The fast startup involved selecting just a few
SNAC International vendors, including Shick Esteve
for ingredient handling; Shaffer, a Bundy Baking
Solution, for mixing; Reading Bakery Systems for
pretzel makeup and baking; and Heat and Control
for packaging. Additionally, the company is upgrading its Bluffton bakery with a new pretzel line that will
add 2.5 to 3 million lb to its much-needed capacity.
Steve Huggins noted that such investments are
part of a perpetual process in growing the business,
which is now the second-largest private label snack
producer in the nation. "We have continually reinvested back in our plants with capital infusions," he
said. "Over time, that's helped us become successful versus the smaller, private-label operations that
have not made those capital investments."
Chip Mann explained that such reinvestments
reflect its commitment to the snack industry and its
customers. "We're adding capacity to service the industry. We're one of the few companies - if not the
only - that continues to grow in the pretzel market
and invest in assets," he said. "We're excited about
that. We're doing everything to get back on top."
