American consumers think that protein matters "a lot,"
and that influences their purchase behavior.
Experiential eating remains popular too, but lifestyle
shifts have created new eating encounters for snacks.
While there might be a pause in consumer preference for
the new and unique, consumers are just taking a time out.
"People are still fascinated with food. Ultimately, they
will want to engage in exciting new flavors, textures and
snack trends, and they will see our pork rinds as a fun
experience that delivers great taste," Mr. Singleton sai
During COVID-19, cooking at home skyrocketed and
so did using pork rinds as an ingredient. People had
more time on their hands and wanted to engage with
others about their food. Sharing photos of food creations continues to promote positive news, and people
need that right now.
"The level of consumer engagement is at an all-time
high. Our social media followers posted countless
photos of their food creations using our pork rinds and
shared their recipes," Mr. Singleton said. "We are working to build a better online presence to better serve our
fans and take our business to a whole new level."
Utz Quality Foods', Hanover, Pa., Golden Flake
brand of pork rinds also did well with 12.1% growth.
To leverage the surge of interest in snacks, pork
rind producers are innovating with new flavors.
Minneapolis-based General Mills' EPIC brand added
new flavors to its pork skin line. Cinnamon Churro with
maple sugar and spices is a new flavor of baked pork
rinds, and Jalapeño is a spicy, peppery new variety of
pork cracklings.
For the first time, Rudolph Foods is introducing limited-edition holiday-inspired pork rinds featuring two
new flavors, Apple Cinnamon and Cranberry Jalapeño,
a hot and sweet taste profile which was inspired by an
old family recipe for cranberry jalapeño relish.
