Jerky sales are up 20.7% in the past year.

Convenient portable protein jerky snacks are getting
snapped up by consumers, with overall dollar sales
up 20.7% and the top seven best-selling brands
boasting double-digit growth for the 52 weeks ending
Dec. 26, 2021, according to IRI.
Jack Link's brand continues to lead the Jerky market,
with sales of $642.2 million, which represents half
the total sales in the category. Other top sellers include
private label with $168.4 million in sales, Old Trapper
with $138.9 million and Bridgford Sweet Baby Ray's at
$134 million, which is a mashup of Bridgford beef jerky
and Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce.
Like so many other snacks, the category is reaching
beyond traditional norms, with a variety of formats and
flavors.
Reports say PepsiCo and Beyond Meat are poised
to release a vegan jerky in 2022, and Country Archer
Provisions in 2021 introduced a line of plant-based
jerky made with King Oyster mushrooms with a similar
look and chew to regular jerky in BBQ, Teriyaki and
Spiced Bacon flavors.
Brave Good Kind introduced Tender Chicken Bars
in 2021, and other top sellers have something similar.
Jack Link's sells an Original Beef Strip Bar, made
with 100% beef and 7 grams of protein. And General
Mills-owned Epic in 2021 introduced a Beef Barbacoainspired
Bar, which is made from beef that was raised
using practices aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
Consumers are going after not only protein but big
flavors as well. One response to that in late 2021 was
Country Archer Provisions' limited edition Death Reaper
Jerky made with Carolina Reaper peppers.
