MEET THE VILLAGES OF
NEWELL, LAKE DENHAM & DABNEY

ecently, our planning and design teams completed the naming of three new Villages
coming to our southernmost areas. As we work to finalize the layout of the area, we
are excited to introduce you to The Villages of Newell, Lake Denham and Dabney.
The Villages of Newell, Lake Denham & Dabney will bring to The Villages unique
recreation features such as Jubilee Putting Course, Mickey Lee Pitch & Putt, Franklin
Village Recreation Center along with the Newell and Dabney Recreation Areas. In the
same spirit as some of our other names, these areas names were inspired by the history of
the Leesburg area and the State of Florida.

WILMON NEWELL (1878-1943)

Newell

Wilmon Newell was the first Plant Commissioner for the
Florida State Plant Board and was the University of Florida's
former College of Agriculture director. He is best know for
his years of agricultural advances in eradicating Citrus Canker
and other invasive plant pests. In 1996, Newell was inducted
into the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame.

Lake Denham

DABNEY
ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL
(1876-2008)
Officially named after
John Morgan Dabney who
became principal of the
Leesburg area school in
1882 and was a part of the
areas history. At the time
Dabney was principal of the
school, it was unnamed with
grades one through eight
and the school term was
only three months long.
