2021-2022 Lowndes High Boys Basketball Season will go down as one of
the school's most memorable seasons. The Vikings went (23-3) in the regular season. They
maintained an undefeated record during region play (6-0) as they captured the title of Region
1-7A Champions. The region championship victory was only the 3rd time in program history
that the Vikings garnered the title and the region awards reflect the dominance of this senior-led
team. The following awards were received: Player of the Year, Offensive & Defensive Players of
the Year, Two 1st Team, One Second Team & Two Honorable Mention. The Vikings produced
the 2021-2022 Region Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Offensive Player of
the Year. Leading scorer Darmarcus Black was one of two Vikings to be named to the All-Region
First Team. The 6-5 senior forward does a little bit of everything for the Vikings; he averages 22
points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals while also adding an assist and a block per game. Sophomore
sensation Samuel Shoptaw also made the All-Region First Team. Shoptaw came off the Vikings
bench most of last season averaging 6.8 points per contest while playing in all 26 games. This
year, Shoptaw averages 10.7 points, 3.5 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal. Senior big man Landon
New is also making strides this season with averages of 10 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Other players to watch out for are Keyshawn Arthur (6.7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals) and
Reuben Compton (7 points, 3 rebounds). Leading the Vikings in his 4th season as Head Coach
- Reshon Benjamin earned his first ever Region 1-7A Coach of the Year award. Coach Benjamin
has rooted the program in the philosophy of: Love + Learning + Labor = Lowndes
