NewsBeat Safeway Opens in Ewa Safeway opened its 20th Hawaii store in mid-November, becoming the anchor tenant at the Laulani Village Shopping Center at the corner of Fort Weaver Road and Keaunui Drive in Ewa Beach. It is the seventh Safeway in the Islands that has a “Lifestyle” format, with prepared food including sushi, signature sandwiches and hot soups. The 60,000-square-foot store attracted a line of customers around the building at its public grand opening. Earlier, 350 people attended the VIP opening. Laulani Village, the largest development project in Ewa history, was built by Property Development Centers (PDC), a subsidiary of Safeway, Inc. Shafer’s Robins Elected RCAH President The Roofing Contractors Association of Hawaii (RCAH) has elected Bernadette Robins of Shafer’s Roofing as its new president. She succeeds Charlie Beeck of Tropical Roofing & Raingutters. Bernadette Robins Other newly elected officers at the RCAH’s meeting in November include Scott Ai of Beachside Roofing as vice president, Tai Ai of Alcai Hawaii as treasurer and Mike Leong of Kapili Construction LLC as secretary. Members of the board of directors include Steve Maero of Rainbow Roof Maintenance Co., Mike Tory of Tory’s Roofing & Waterproofing, Dora Fong of Honolulu Roof Co., Rick Samorano of Roofworks Hawaii, Larry Young of Commercial Roofing and Joe Kirby of Kaulana Roofing. 64 | Building industry | January 2013 Tim Lyons of the Legislative Center Inc., continues to serve as executive director. Officers and directors serve for a two-year term, from January 2013 to the end of December 2014. The RCAH also has Associate Representives from the roofing industry’s manufacturers and distributors. They are Howard Meehan of Polyglass USA, Dennis Payne of RSI, Elelani Madden of Malarkey and Jack Miller of ABC Supply.
