Nan, Inc. Acquires KKCC on the Big Island Nan, Inc., the Oahu-based construction industry firm which has served as general contractor for several major Big Island projects such as the highly acclaimed Ane Keohokalole Highway, now has a permanent home on the Big Island. Through the recent majority acquisition of Keauhou Kona Construction Corporation (KKCC), a Big Island icon since 1882, Nan, Inc. has taken significant steps forward in further developing its Big Island operations. “This move greatly supplements our civil work capabilities,” says Ryan Nakaima, Nan, Inc. vice president. Nan, Inc. stresses that it is extremely proud to be able to combine the experience and knowledge of both kamaiana companies, which will solidify its commitment to serve the people and economy of Hawaii Island and its people. Nan, Inc.’s Kona office crew and staff now at home on the Big Island. Black Construction, Guam Contractor of the Year Black Construction Corp. has been named 2012 Contractor of the Year by the Guam Contractors Association. It is the 10th time that Black Construction has received the GCA honor. Black Construction also bagged the trophy for 2012 Excellence in Construction First Place Overall Project, and other awards during a ceremony Nov. 1 at the Westin Resort Guam. Nippo Corp, Ian Corp., Hawaiian Rock Products, Guam Shipyard and Fargo Pacific also competed for the title. “We are very honored to have been selected as the Contractor of the Year and we congratulate all the other nominees,” says Leonard Kaae, Black Construction’s senior vice president and general manager. “This means a lot to our company and our hard-working employees. I also offer my appreciation to our subcontractors and vendors who assist us in doing our job.” Black Construction, a subsidiary of Tutor Perini Corp. of Framingham, Mass., has been doing business on Guam since 1958. Ranked No. 10 on the Guam Business Magazine’s 2011 Top 30 companies, Black Construction reported a revenue of $91.1 million in 2011. It has a total of 500 employees. Black Construction specializes in heavy and light construction, electrical and mechanical contracting. Among its recent projects this year are the renovation and site improvement at the Port of Guam Authority, the repair of south runway at the Andersen Air Force Base, the repair of shoreline revetment at the Navy Support Facility in Diego Garcia and the construction of the Camacho Landmark Center in Tamuning.
