RESIDENTIAL CONSTRU If You Build It, Will They Come? —They’re Already Here! BY LEE SCHALLER Last year at this time, there were mixed reviews about the residential marketplace, with some sectors beginning to show signs of improvement, and others still significantly downbeat. There was, however, just about unanimous agreement on one point: There was little or no inventory. Have things changed? Yes and no. Yes, the residential marketplace is more upbeat, development and construction activity are on the rise and confidence is higher. What has not changed? Inventory is still extremely low—nowhere near fulfilling the constantly increasing consumer demand.
