Industry Recognition As with many of the construction-related organizations that have their own method of recognizing excellence in the building industry, the local publishing scene also has awards programs to honor excellence in print. One of them is the Hawaii Publishers Association Pai Awards program, which was held on May 25 at the Pagoda Hotel. Building Industry earned second place in the trade magazine category for the October 2010 issue, which featured “The Continuing Growth of West Oahu,” the Pacific Building Trade Expo program and two other feature stories. “This publication is well executed, informative and thorough,” wrote the judges (all entries are sent to the mainland for unbiased, third-party critique). “The design has made excellent use of graphic elements – fonts, overlines and section headers – to guide the reader through the publication effortlessly.” BI’s sister publication, Hawaii Hospitality magazine earned first place with the May/June 2010 issue, for which the judges commented, “This is a trade magazine that is enjoyable to read even for readers that are not in the industry.” Contact Bonnie McIntyre at 545-4242 or visit Associated Builders & Contractors, Hawaii chapter • Membership Appreciation & Vendor Fest.
