New Fuel Pier at Kalaeloa The Hawaii Department of Transportation (DOT) Harbors Division plans a dedicated fuel pier development at Piers 3 and 4 at Kalaeloa Barbers Point Harbor. An environmental impact study will be part of the Statewide Fuel Facilities Development Plan, which recommends improvements in pier infrastructure in anticipation of increasing need for various fuel products and part of Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s “New Day” initiatives. DOT’s Harbors Division seeks to address expected increases in fuel imports and exports, and to accommodate various types of fuel and feedstock shipments to serve the state’s fuel and energy markets. Hawthorne Cat hosted more than 150 construction industry leaders and operators recently at its fifth all-day Demo Day called “Get In, Get Real.” The event gave attendees the opportunity to test and compare the newest Caterpillar equipment, as well as an opportunity to win a free 3-month use of rental equipment. The 950K wheel loader was featured, with a “load-sensing sensor” that allows the engine to work on full capacity (HP) only when necessary, saving fuel and requiring fewer repairs. Also featured was the new Caterpillar D-Series Skid Steers Loader and 320E RR (reduced radius) Hydraulic Excavator as well as the all-new Auto Hydraulic Coupler, which makes it unnecessary for the operator to leave the machine to change a tool on the machine. “Demo Day also gives Hawaii’s construction customers a chance to get into the operator’s seat of the newest machines in Hawaii,” said Bobby Whitworth, general manager of Hawthorne Cat. ABC Golf Tournament The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Hawaii Chapter held its 12th Annual Golf Tournament on August 21 at Pearl Country Club. ABC members and non-members gathered for a day of golf and networking. ABC raffled off a 60-inch TV, iPad Mini, Galaxy Note 10.1, toolboxes and $50 gift cards, among other prizes.
