NewsMakers Lois Shore Joins Island Air Travel executive Lois Shore has joined Island Air as chief marketing officer. Shore will be responsible for all sales, marketing, planning and distribution functions. "With three decades of leadership experience in travel marketing and distribution, Lois is just the right person to help us revitalize and grow the Island Air brand as we add aircraft and expand service," Island Air CEO Paul Casey said. "She has established herself in the Hawaii market over the last seven years, and will bring great energy and passion to her new role." Shore was an executive at Outrigger Enterprise Group, most recently serving as vice president of distribution and marketing services. Previously, Shore was senior vice president of sales, marketing and public relations for the New York-based Ensemble Travel Group. BIA's Gladys Marrone Gets the Nod Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell has appointed BIAHawaii's Government Relations Director Gladys Marrone to the City & County of Honolulu's Transportation Commission, a seven-member commission that evaluates, reviews and makes recommendations on matters pertaining to the Department of Transportation Services. Marrone will serve for a term ending June 30, 2015. In late September, Hawaii Senate President Donna Mercado Kim appointed Marrone to a seat on the Art Advisory Commission, which requires the comptroller and the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to commission permanent works of art to honor the late U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye and the late U.S. Representative Patsy T. Mink. At BIA-Hawaii, Marrone managed Build-PAC Hawaii, HawaiiBuilt Green, the BIA Building Codes committees and the Construction Industry Council of Hawaii. She also worked to develop BIA-Hawaii's position on state and county legislation, while advancing and executing advocacy strategies. Marrone previously worked as an urban planner with Group 70 International, Inc. for six years. She also served as director of research and legal affairs with the Land Use Research Foundation of Hawaii. She earned a bachelor's degree in public administration at USC and a law degree from the UH Richardson School of Law. Sharon Thom New Kiewit VP The Kiewit Building Group Inc., which has served Hawaii for more than 30 years in construction and engineering services, has named Sharon Thom senior vice president and Hawaii area manager. Thom, who joined Kiewit in 2010 as director of pre-construction operations, succeeds Lance Wilhelm, who was recently promoted to senior vice president of Kiewit Corp. over its Hawaii operations and is playing a significant role in Kiewit's construction of the $5.26 billion Honolulu elevated rail transit project. Thom will be responsible for Kiewit's vertical construction work in Hawaii, including business development, marketing, estimating and special projects. Prior to joining Kiewit, Thom served as deputy director of the City and County of Honolulu's Department of Transportation Services. "Sharon's valuable market knowledge is a tremendous asset to our Hawaii operations," Wilhelm said in a statement. "Her extensive experience in the Hawaii construction industry will serve her well in her new role at a time when the local construction industry is beginning an upswing." www.buildingindustryhawaii.com | 75 Five Join The Howard Hughes Corporation The Howard Hughes Corporation has announced five new additions to its development team based at the company's Robert Centra Honolulu headquarters. Robert Centra is the new vice president of construction, Michael Vachio is director of preconstruction, Brian Smith Michael Vachio is manager of project accounting, Calvin Mann is a development manager and Jim Miller joined the team as a development analyst. These new hires Brian Smith coincide with a shift from the planning to the implementation stage for phase one of the Ward Village master-planned community. "The newest Calvin Mann additions to the Howard Hughes development team share our passion for creating a vibrant, authentic neighborhood at Ward Village," said David Striph, Jim Miller senior vice president-Hawaii for The Howard Hughes Corporation. "We look forward to working together to build a dynamic urban community in the heart of Honolulu."
