AIA Honolulu's CANstruction Competition Wins Big People's Choice Award and Juror's Favorite Richard Matsunaga and Associates Architects' "The Moa-i-CAN, the Moa-We-CAN" The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter held its eighth annual CANstruction® Competition in October at Pearlridge Center (Uptown). For six hours, 13 teams of local architects, builders and allied design and engineering professionals "canstructed" giant structures made entirely out of thousands of cans of food. Sponsored by C & S Wholesale Grocers, HONBLUE/Jet Graphics, Makana Communication, Pearlridge Center and SMPS Hawaii, AIA Honolulu's CANstruction® competition is a benefit for the Hawaii Foodbank. Over the past eight years, the CANstruction® competition at Pearlridge Center has raised 286,404 pounds of canned food for the Hawaii Foodbank- enough for over 250,000 meals to support Hawaii's hungry families. The 2013 People's Choice Award winner and the 2013 Jurors' Favorite winner was "The Moa-i-CAN, the Moa-We-CAN" by Richard Matsunaga and Associates Architects. The People's Choice Award is the only non-jury award.
