From Hawaii Kai to Ewa, townhomes benefit from reflective asphalt shingles. C ommercial Roofing & Waterproofing Hawaii (CRW) recently completed two multifamily townhome roofing projects in Hawaii Kai and Ewa by Gentry communities. Both projects involved the tear-off of existing roofing and a complete replacement using CertainTeed® Landmark™ PRO Energy Star ® Asphalt Shingles. Through a partnership with Greenpath Technologies, both projects will have PV systems installed, making them complete turnkey energy solution projects under a master warranty program. The Marina Palms project, located near Hawaii Kai’s marina, consisted of re-roofing 54 residences in eight low-rise buildings. Originally constructed in 1966, its roofs were in need of a system that could withstand a combination of sun and ocean saltwater, yet enhance the association’s marina-front lifestyle. “The association selected the CertainTeed Landmark PRO Energy Star asphalt shingles in the silver birch color. The shingles August - September 2013 Marina Palms in Hawaii Kai are laminated and have high solar reflectivity,” says CRW company president Guy Akasaki. “The Marina Palms roofing project was completed in late 2012. The installation of Greenpath Technologies’ PV panels for additional energy savings is currently underway. This turnkey installation of the roof and PV through one general contractor allows the association to be protected with one master warranty.” In Central Oahu, CRW has just completed the residential Palm Court re-roofing project in Ewa. The project entailed complete tear-off and reroofing of 50 low-rise townhome buildings with 400 residences, plus carport and recreation areas using CertainTeed’s Landmark PRO asphalt shingles. “This large residential neighborhood needed a new roof that can handle Ewa’s constant sunshine, arid exterior elements and strong solar rays,” says Akasaki. “CertainTeed’s Energy Star silver birch color provided the superior warranty and pleasing aesthetics that this association needed.” Greenpath’s PV installation is underway with completion estimated by fall 2013.
