Roofing A Good Match New roof gives local shopping center a fresh look. By Richard Foust H auula Kai Shopping Center, owned by HRT Limited, has been undergoing extensive renovations since November 2012. The 26,500-square-foot space formerly occupied by Pay ‘n Save was completely renovated to accommodate a new CVS/Longs Drug store that opened in late July 2013. The renovations include a new entry storefront canopy, along with landscaping, paving and painting upgrades to the parking lot. “The challenge was to replace the entry storefront canopy while keeping the tenants open for business,” says project manager Lee George of Allied Builders System. “We built plywood tunnels, temporary lighting and kept the roofing watertight to keep the tenants and visitors safe.” Michael Yamauchi, owner of Certified Sheet Metal, was subcontracted to replace the roof canopy and create a new entry tower roof at Longs. He requested the assistance of Hawaii Metal Roofing to match the new entry with the center’s existing metal roofing style. Hawaii Metal Roofing recommended Surelock® 175 panel profile, with factory-applied, low-gloss patina green color finish as a suitable match. The project architect, Sueda & Associates, approved the Energy Star and LEED compliant system. The Surelock 175 “snap-lock” standing seam panels install simply and precisely with simple downward pressure on the interlocking panel seam over the panel clip, fasteners and seam of adjacent panel. This metal roof is frequently used on critical projects such as military bases, financial institutions, healthcare facilities, historic buildings, as well as private residences due to its appearance, strength, durability and easy installation.
