Al has 37 years of successful, progressive Al Denys leadership and property management experience in both the private and federal sectors, including 18 years in Hawaii association management. He has served as president and vice president for the Hawaii Chapter of Community Associations Institute (CAI) and is a current member of the CAI’s Legislative Action Committee. Hawaiian Building Maintenance (HBM), Hawaii’s largest facilities services company, has promoted Jim Birchfield to vice president of technical engineering services, Jodi Okada to director of internal operations and Jarrett Walters to vice president of operations. “Jim and Jodi are integral members of our team,” said Jim Walters, chief executive officer and president of HBM. “Jim’s extensive experience in engineering, and Jodi’s in-depth knowledge of our maintenance organization, will help HBM continue to move forward with our planned growth.” Birchfield, who joined HBM in 1998 as a building engineer, brings more than 30 years of management, leadership and hands-on Jim Birchfield engineering experience to the company. In his new role, he will oversee HBM’s engineering and services division, which provides technical and engineering support to customers. His oversight will ensure optimum operation and quality maintenance of property systems and equipment, which includes general maintenance of various systems such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, electronic systems and more. Jodi Okada joined HBM in 2002 as a payroll/ AR administrator. Since then, she has worked in various departments within the company, Jodi Okata including the contracting services division where she served as an administrative manager. As the director of internal operations, Okada will facilitate communication between all of HBM’s departments. Jarrett Walters was promoted to vice president of operations. “We are pleased to promote Jarrett to such an important position in our Jarrett Walters company,” said Karl Fujii, executive vice president of HBM. “Jarrett’s experience and leadership skills will help HBM carry out our legacy, in providing dependable, quality and cost efficient solutions for property management and the building services community.” Walters joined the company in 2006 as director of retail operations. Most recently, he served as the company’s executive director of building services, where he oversaw commercial and retail operations. He is currently responsible for overseeing sales, quality control, customer services, operations and strategic development. Certified Hawaii, an Associa company, announces the addition of James Brese as branch controller, and Pauli Wong as vice president of Reserve and Account Executive Division. Brese will be responsible for providing accounting and financial services to Certified’s clients and the branch itself. “James is an James Brese innovative and forward-thinking professional with 25 years of knowledge and experience,” said Certified President and CEO Jon McKenna. “He has a strong accounting leadership background, having been successful in various roles and industries, and I am enormously proud to welcome him to the team as we continue to grow in Hawaii.” Wong will be responsible for a portfolio of properties, as well as for establishing and growing a Reserve Study Division.
