lanakila race: SoCAl ocean Racing Short course start Martin Jarolimek On February 23rd, Lanakila Outrigger hosted the Lanakila Classic at the Seaside Lagoon. The venue, changed from Carpet Beach, made for a great place for vendors and Ocean of Hope to set up, family and friends to congregate and talk story, and a more streamlined process getting SUPs, outriggers, and surfskis launched. One of the coolest parts of the day takes place prior to the start of the two main courses. The kids race is an opportunity for the 'kiddos' to race inside the harbor on a mini course. Garret Crayton, 12 years old, who is 2-man with some of the fastest guys in Southern California, raced an OC-1 this year. It's an awesome way for the kids to get on the water and participate. More so, it's really awesome to watch these kids grow up — many following in their parents' footsteps and just super stoked on paddling. The day turned out to be a beautiful one and had a respectable showing in the number of Ross Flemmer on the long course. In the 'long', Mike Eisert was sion. Other winners included Kriszta Zur in the women's surfski division and Stephen Sinkus and Jeane Barrett winning their respective divisions on the OC-1.
